Brief
Part A Write an article regarding how to produce
i) Good Vision Statement
ii) Good Mission Statement Select one Vision Statement from any company and evaluate the vision statement, then suggest an improved version of the vision statement.
Part B Assume that you manage a company – ABC Construction, which your company has the scale similar to YTL. By using 5 forces model (and any other analysis tools), access your competitive advantage in the property development industry.
Learning Outcome
Through a simple article, I understood the method of vision statement and mission statement through numerous research provided by the founder of competitive advantage, Michael.E.Porter. Not only that, the availability to analyse and judge other vision statement provide a good exercise in creating a good statement.
This also taught me how to use Porter's Five Force to analyse the competitive advantage of a property developing company in a property development industry.
Project 2: Site Visit Report
Brief
The proposed site for this study is at Pulau Sembilan, Perak. Sembilan consists of nine islands; Rumbia, Lalang, Saga, Buluh, Samak, Nipis, Agas, Miskin and Nyamuk. All of them are uninhabited. The islands are located nearby the town of Lumut, and also nearby Pangkor Island. The proposed research site features crystal clear seawater, white beaches and an untouched tropical jungle. Hence it is an appropriate site for student to study environment protection and environment preservation before, during and after the construction process.
In this study trip, students are required to observe, record and analyze the island.
From the point of view of an investor who intent to build a resort, students should prepare a business proposal which includes (but not limited to) the following items:
a) Current condition of the island. Explain the background including the attraction points, illustrate with photograph when needed.
b) Targeted market. Identify type of product or service you plan to provide. You can utilize market segmentation to identify the product or service.
c) Product or service. Explain the product or service, especially if there is any differentiation compare to the other players in the industry.
d) Competitive strategy. Illustrate strategies in order to gain competitive advantage.
e) The environment protection and environment preservation suggestions to minimize the impact to the natural environment before, during and after construction..
Learning Outcome
As an on-site study, we exposed themselves to the project site for observation. A lot of insight was installed to the us compare to an on-the-paper assignment. Also, this function as a role-play exercise, we gained perception on the role and responsibilities of an investor. Finally, we researched and proposed constructive suggestion for project improvement.
